The height of hi-tech trash bins is here! The BigBelly Solar compactor is an ingenious trash can with a built in compactor driven by its own solar panels on top of the bin. It may look exactly like any other trash bin but inside this one is a 12V battery that is getting charged up by the solar panels every time the sun hits them. The battery in turn runs the bins compactor that will start packing the trash as soon as it reaches up to a certain level. Because of the compactor this waste basket can accommodate 8 times more trash than a normal trash bin. That’s a whopping 600-800liters full of trash in one little bin. Even better it has its own Wireless Monitoring System that will send out a sms to the responsible sanitary company, informing them when the trash bin needs emptying

Compacting trash bin great for the environment

The Big Belli solar compactor is great for the environment, since it will compact the trash to take up less space. It therefore doesn’t need to be emptied as often. The final waste bag will also take up less space in the garbagetruck. This means the truck don’t have to make as many rounds around town in a day, witch in turn leads to less fossil fuel exhaustion and minimized costs. The best part is that the trash bin doesn’t waste any power of its own because it runs on renewable solar energy. We think that every street square should have one of these installed. How many times have you not walked past a garbage can to find it so full there is more trash on the ground than in the trash can? With the solar powered trash bin it could be a thing of the past.
